About The Order of the Eastern Star

The Order of the Eastern Star was established in the United States in 1778. The founder of OES was Dr. Robert Morris, a lawyer and educator from Boston, Massachusetts, who was a Master Mason and Past Grand Master of Kentucky. The Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonically-related fraternity of women and men dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness. Although not a part of the Masonic fraternity, membership is based on a Masonic affiliation or relationship, a belief in God, and a desire to acquire additional knowledge for self-improvement.

The Order of the Eastern Star teaches lessons of fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith and love. The Order also acts as a social organization, hosting frequent formal and informal  events and ceremonies. Many of these functions are available for the public attendance.

Local Eastern Star Chapters select their own charities and places of service in their own communities. Some statewide projects include scholarships for students while citywide endeavors include feed the hungry initiatives and annual health fairs. Each year special non-profit charities are selected for that year’s emphasis and specific community outreach.
